There is a saying that “all politics is local.” Politics is certainly on the minds of the citizens of Israel and the United States. The US and Israel have very different systems of representation, though. America’s national history begins with the amazing system of governance derived by her Founders from the philosophical discourses of the Age of Enlightenment. Modern Israel’s governing history begins with a set of “Basic Laws” inherited from the British Mandate. What can Israel learn from America’s extraordinary and ongoing 240-year experiment with self-government?
